3 Traits Essential for Resourcefulness

Most success stories do not revolve around a plethora of resources, availability of time and technology and opportunities at their disposal. Rather, they revolve around how well the available, however insufficient, resources were utilized to their utmost potential. They revolve around the idea of resourcefulness. It refers to the ability to find quick and clever ways to get something done.

The truth is nobody has it all. You might find the grass to be greener on the other side and sure, it might be, but it in no way means that your side cannot be greener. To be candid, if you are resourceful enough, you will find there are plenty of resources available at your disposal. They might not be direct resources to aid you in your path forward but if you will fathom that they will indeed usher you on to the right path. These resources are the people around you, the little technology you avail, the creativity you can portray and most importantly, your mindset. To be resourceful, there are a few traits you must evince.

1. Reach Out
As I mentioned before, nobody has it all. You might be the jack of all trades but to maximize your productivity, you need masters at your disposals. Reach out to people who are better than you in certain aspects and employ them to do the particular job. It’s a jigsaw puzzle. You won’t fit in all places. Get people who do and you will create a radiant piece of art for yourself. If you find yourself stuck at a particular juncture, ask around for help. It only makes you smarter and helps your growth and resourcefulness.

2. Creativity
You MUST have a creative and a unique perspective at everything. Whether you’re simply observing or analyzing something, step into the shoes of everyone related to the project and think through their perspective. Get a wider view at a piece of the puzzle and look at the bigger picture. Try a 180-degree approach and comprehend a problem from the opposite angle. You would be surprised to learn something new from every perspective.

3. Connect the Dots
Whatever resources you have at your disposal, whether materialistic, psychological or humanitarian, think about how they could ameliorate your vision and strengthen your organization. The innovative business leader, Steve Jobs, took a calligraphy class when he had dropped out of college. Over a decade later, when he and Steve Wozniak were developing the system for Apple’s Macintosh, Jobs incorporated the various fonts he had learned into the computer. It was the trailblazer of multiple fonts and equally proportioned text in personal computers. This is how he connected the dots by assimilating his learning from calligraphy into the computer world.

Lack of resources, time or money is simply an excuse hindering your path forward. Take a leap of faith over it by maximizing your resourceful mind and you will fly along the path. Grow beyond such impediments and you’ll flourish.
“The defining factor (for success) is never the resources, it’s the resourcefulness.” ~ Tony Robbins.
