5 ways of developing your awesome mindset

Everyone can change their lives and their circumstances. You can stop being just some average human being who lived on this earth. You can become a special, extraordinary person if you want to.  How do you do that? By just changing your attitude, by the way you think and act.  In short, you have to develop an awesome mindset, to see awesome circumstances around you.

I remember a story I read in school days which I still remember. I remember it not because I have an exceptional memory but rather because of the enlightening experience I had when I read that story. The story starts with a farmer finding an eagle’s egg in the field. He brings it home and places it next to the hen’s eggs which he has in his backyard.  The eagle’s egg is hatched along with the other chicken eggs. The young eagle starts living with the other chickens following their lifestyle. Slowly it grows up but still continues to live with the chickens because he thinks he is a chicken too. He also flies just a short distance, because that is what he learned being a ‘chicken’.

One day an old eagle sees him living with the chickens and asked him why he is not flying in the skies. The young eagle tells him that he is just a chicken and he cannot fly. The old eagle finds out the truth and begins teaching the young one to fly. As time went by, one day the young eagle learned to fly like a real eagle and started soaring in the high skies. Moral of the story: You also can change your mundane, dull situation by changing your attitude. You can realise your true potential, once you develop a life transforming mindset. Here are some things you can do to develop your awesome mindset:

1) Learning or ‘unlearning’ mindset: Most of us carry the notion that the brain that you inherited cannot be changed. You think that your personality traits, qualities or mental attitudes you possess will remain like that for your entire life. Well, this may surprise you, but research has proved that you can transform the brain’s abilities at whatever stage or age of your life. The brain never stops learning or “unlearning” for that matter. You can learn new skills, change your attitudes, adopt a new mindset whenever you decide to. At the same time you can “unlearn” behaviour and thoughts which are destructive to your life and progress. This is really a path-breaking discovery to develop an awesome mindset.

2) Positive mindset: Developing and maintaining a positive attitude is the need of the hour. We are continuously exposed to bad news through media or around us. Our negative circumstances and experiences can affect our well being. This might lead to a negative outlook which might prevent you from living a happy life. Developing a positive attitude will not only benefit you but also your family, your colleagues and your friends. Being grateful for the things you have and reframing life problems in a different perspective are just some ways for developing a positive mindset.

3) Failure for success mindset: You may get confused by the subhead as how a failure can lead to success. Let me explain. Consider failure as good for your success. It offers you learning experiences. When you fail, it tells you what works and what does not. There is an old saying “Failure is the stepping stone to Success”. Do not shy away from failing. Do not self-criticise for being a failure. Having this “failure for success” mindset will stop you from being afraid of failure.

4) Forgiving mindset: In life, you will come across people who will anger you or disappoint you. There will always be someone or something which will be a source of constant irritation for you. In home, or office or outdoors, people will test your patience. This will lead to an emotional instability and make you lose your peace of mind.  Hence, it is prudent to have a forgiving mindset as you make your way through life. Resentment and thoughts of revenge will only harm you, not the other person. Accept that to err is to be human. Forgive others for your own good.

5) Selfless mindset: We are constantly thinking about ourselves. Our needs, our wants, our desires—we want to fulfil them all. All our life we struggle to achieve what we feel should be in our possession. But the problem is it never happens. We never reach a point when we fill we have all that we desire or need. Our entire life is spent in dissatisfaction because of this ‘Selfish’ mindset. But what if we change this mindset to a ‘Selfless’ mindset. Thinking of others and their wants. Trying to help others in need rather than just thinking of our needs. When you decide to have such a mindset you suddenly forget about yourself and your selfish thoughts. Your life takes on a new meaning. Try developing a selfless mindset and see the results.

Try these ways to develop your awesome mindset. And very soon you will start noticing things changing in your life for the better.
